Sing with Us
If you’d like to join us, rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 – 9.30pm, during term time, in the hall at the back of St James the Greater church on London Rd. You’re welcome to join us for a rehearsal or two at the start of the term before you decide to commit to an audition. You will hopefully find us a friendly group and the rehearsals hard work, but fun.
Everyone worries about auditions but Richard Laing makes them as informal as possible. A lot of people are anxious that their sight-reading will let them down but the choir can cope with a few singers whose sight-reading isn’t so good, providing you have a good ear and are committed to putting some homework in to learn your part. These days it’s possible to learn by down-loading your voice part from the internet. We also operate a buddy system for singers who aren’t so confident with their sight-reading. You’d be paired with a friendly, more experienced singer who could help if you were struggling to learn the notes.
The Leicester Bach Choir has a current singing membership of approximately 75 and welcomes new singers for all parts.
Current annual subscriptions are £160 which includes cost of music hire (applications for reductions under special circumstances may be made to the Treasurer in total confidence) with concessionary rates of £25 for members under 26 in full time education. There is a pro-rata subscription for those who join during the year. A number of Leicester Bach Choir Scholarships are available to singers of pre-graduate age providing free membership.
Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.30pm in the large hall at the back of St James the Greater, which is on London Road but accessed via St James’ Terrace.
If you’re interested in joining the choir, please contact our Secretary.
We also invite anyone who can read music and wishes to give choral singing a try, or those who are or have been choral singers, to attend our popular Come and Sing choral workshops each January.
